September 2023 – About 1,794 families who were affected by the eruption of the Mayon Volcano received critical support in the form of hygiene kits, which were desperately needed in the evacuation centers.
In collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Good Neighbors International Philippines successfully distributed hygiene kits to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had been affected by the volcanic activities of Mt. Mayon in Malilipot and Guinobatan, Albay.
Rona, one of the thousands of evacuees who had been living in evacuation centers for nearly four months, expressed her gratitude for the assistance. She stated, “We are grateful for the relief provided by Good Neighbors because it greatly assists our family in maintaining daily hygiene.”
Furthermore, the evacuation centers received cleaning supplies, including mops, cleaning detergents, brooms, pails, and other items that would help them maintain cleanliness in the camps.
Additionally, children will receive support through psychosocial assistance. A three-day training of trainers program was conducted to facilitate the rollout of psychosocial support for 700 children in Malilipot and Guinobatan. A total of 60 participants participated by community-based rehabilitation workers, community day care workers, students, and interns.
As of October 5, 2023, the decampment of evacuees from the 6-km radius PDZ was ordered by the Provincial Governor of Albay, Atty. Edcel Lagman. However, it is the discretion of Local Chief Executives whether the residents living beyond the 6-kilometer PDZ will be decamped.
