In Gigmoto, Catanduanes, diarrhea still remains to be one of the top causes of death in Gigmoto due to a lack of access to safe water sources in the household. 

In Sitio Sawa in Barangay Sioron, getting clean water is very difficult. Typhoon Rolly left massive damage to natural resources and their water supply since households rely on deep wells and hand pumps that are untreated and unsafe for drinking.

Residents climbing mountains and crossing rivers for a gallon of water became part of their everyday routine. These paths become unpassable when it rains. 

Good Neighbors International Philippines built a water tank and water reservoir that will provide water to each household and public school through the Securing Access to Flourish Empowerment for Water or SAFE for Water Project.

This aims to improve the access to water for drinking and domestic use in Gigmoto, Catanduanes, and capacitate and equip community members on the proper usage of the water facility for its sustainability. 

In support of this, Barangay Water and Sanitation Association or BAWASA was organized in the nine villages, health workers and community leaders were capacitated, barangay ordinances were developed to support water access and maintenance, and Information, Education, and Communication materials were also developed.

A total of 9,000 community members benefitted from this project which allows them to have safe water. Now, the children of Sitio Sawa do not have to walk on treacherous terrain in order to survive. Part of bridging dreams and giving hope to the marginalized and disadvantaged sectors includes ensuring that children like April stay healthy and have access to safe water.
