Aiza A. Gomez, a sponsored child from Laak, Davao de Oro, was one of our Youth panelists during the Youth Wave in 2024. Aiza’s family faced significant financial challenges, with her father and brother as the sole providers for their extended household. Despite these hardships, Aiza remained determined to pursue her dreams. Through Good Neighbors Philippines, Aiza received educational support from elementary school to high school.
“The support I received was not just for me but extended to my family and dreams,” she shared.
With the organization’s guidance, Aiza also secured a scholarship under the Mindanawon Scholars program and enrolled at Ateneo de Davao University.
“Without their help, I would not have been able to enter Ateneo de Davao University. Today, I share my story to inspire others, especially as an Indigenous People student,” she added.
Aiza’s journey also uncovered her passion for singing, which opened doors to competitions, travel opportunities, and further financial support for her family. Beyond academics and music, she actively participates in social activities, encouraging others to dream and persevere.
“As a fellow youth, I understand the challenges of pursuing dreams. Regardless of our background, it is essential to believe in ourselves and our abilities. Dreaming is not limited by circumstances; it is a universal right we should all hold onto,” Aiza, Youth WAVE 2024 Panelist
Good Change for the World: Empowering Youth, Transforming Communities
At Good Neighbors Philippines, we believe that every youth has the creativity and potential to drive Good Change—for themselves, their families, and the world. However, this potential can only be realized when youth are given the opportunity to hone their skills and pursue their passions through education. Through initiatives like Youth WAVE, we create platforms where young people can thrive—not only for their personal growth but also to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
