GNIP recognizes that the community is just as important as the environment as both gravely affect the fulfillment of children’s rights. Thus, a Green Walk and Mangrove Planting Activity was held last August 3 spearheaded by the CDP of Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon. This is in continuation of GNIP’s commitment with the Local Government Unit of Prieto Diaz, through SEAMANCOR Eco-Developers, Inc., to pursuing coastal rehabilitation efforts that aimed to revive the locality’s coastline as a key step in preserving and protecting the environment.
About 10,000 mangrove propagules were planted in the specified areas wherein there have been a case of mangrove deforestation. The Green Walk or coastal clean-up was _ along the areas of Barangay Diamante, Perlas, Brillante and Tupaz. Prior to this, discussion on the value of mangroves in coastal community and ecosystem as well as the impact of keeping the coastlines garbage-free.
Remarkably, the first-time volunteers which are the CRC members and other attendees enjoyed their time knowing they will contribute to prevent the impending effects of global warming and climate change.
Presently, reducing and reusing plastic use is being practiced in the community by crafting plastics into different types of bags to become a source of income for selected families from the community.
