Participation of GNIP Laak Field Office
The role and participation of Good Neighbors International Philippines (GNIP) Laak Field Office have been significant in addressing the needs and plight of the frontliners and the communities.
Through its strong partnership with local partners, GNIP Laak Field Office is an identified member of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and Technical Working Group (TWG) for the management of COVID-19 in the NGO sector. They have been conducting monitoring visits at the entry checkpoints in order to do the needs assessment and observe scenarios of the frontliners in which will further improve their situation.
Furthermore, they also provided technical guidance such as providing technical inputs in crafting and enhancing localized Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) protocols, mapping of issues, development of action plan, provided assistance on barangay offices in the utilization of emergency funds, and among others.
This collaborative effort of GNIP and the Local Government Unit helped them be a COVID-19-free municipality, as of today.
Distribution of IEC Materials
The importance of accurate and correct information in this time of COVID-19 has been crucial and vital in increasing awareness and protecting children and communities, especially in the far-flung areas that have no access to information.
Adherence to the Local Government Unit (LGU) widespread information campaign, the GNIP Laak Field Office in Davao de Oro initiated an information campaign about COVID-19 pandemic through localized COVID-19 key messages for Indigenous Peoples (IP) or Lumads. An estimated 90% of the populace of Laak across all ages were provided with these advocacy materials. About 14 barangays were given of flyers and hanging of tarpaulins in 6 checkpoint areas and strategic areas.
Remarkably, the community people were very thankful for the information, education and communication materials because it has built an essence of responsibility among themselves by practicing proper hygiene, social distancing and other Enhance Community Quarantine related protocols. It was also valuable that one of our sponsored children helped her IP mother comprehend the key messages of the existing pandemic.
Distribution of Food Essentials to Frontliners
Aside from the protective essentials supported by Good Neighbors International Philippines in our project areas, the organization also handed over food essentials to the frontliners in Laak Field Office which will be distributed to 215 frontliners on duty in the checkpoint areas in Laak, Davao de Oro.
This support of providing meals and snacks will help them better serve the community and strengthen the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Municipal Health Office (MHO) received the food essentials and was very grateful for GNIP’s generosity.
