As we celebrate the 29th Foundation Day of Good Neighbors International across 40 countries, we continue to bring #GoodChangeForTheWorld, and make a better place for the children, especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic. Good Neighbors International Philippines (GNIP) donated more than 2M worth of COVID-19 essentials for more than 5,000 frontliners in its project areas and other areas nationwide. The essentials procured were 55,000 protective masks, 150 tents (3 x 6 m in size), thermal scanners, gloves, and among others.
Yesterday, a turnover of support to the Department of Health (DOH) was done successfully. DOH was very appreciative of the 10,000 masks and 75 tents handed over to them, which will meaningfully help the hospitals in-need. According to Ms. Trizia Muldong, Senior Health Program Officer of DOH, the tents will be used as triage areas for COVID-19 and for out-patients to limit the contact and infection inside the hospitals. The DOH was very grateful and overwhelmed by the generosity of GNIP especially in playing a crucial role in fighting COVID-19 pandemic. She further mentioned that DOH looks forward to more collaboration with GNIP in the future.
Moreover, 5,000 masks were given to Emilio G. Perez Memorial District Hospital in Hagonoy, Bulacan led by GNIP Bulacan Field Office and 5,000 masks and 14 boxes of gloves were donated to the Rural Health Unit of Tingloy, Batangas. The distribution of the other 35,000 masks and other essentials in Quezon City; San Isidro, Rodriguez; Guiuan, Samar; Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon; and Gigmoto, Catanduanes are ongoing.
These essentials are also donated to health centers, which are most helpful to medical frontliners like health workers in our project areas where these kinds of services are inaccessible due to geographical difficulties being located in mountainous and isolated areas. Our joint effort with our partners and stakeholders will contribute to protecting our communities, sponsored children and the most vulnerable groups from the spread of coronavirus.
Huge demand but very limited supply with increased prices, and delivering the essentials have been very challenging in this feat but nothing can beat our dedication and quest in serving our frontliners, and those affected.
Let’s all be part and be a significant contributor in fighting against COVID-19 and in protecting our children. Keep safe and be healthy everyone!
