Good Neighbors Philippines focuses on economic empowerment in areas where limited financial resources keep people in poverty. Through a holistic approach, Good Neighbors commits to help people achieve financial independence. This initiative not only aims to improve the economic condition of individuals and communities but also develops skills and utilizes local resources, fostering sustainable development.

The Good Neighbors Philippines program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 8, which promotes steady and fair economic growth, good jobs, and decent work for everyone. Recognizing that capital and skills are essential for sustainable development, Good Neighbors provides extensive support and resources to assist community members in developing the skills needed to start and manage their own businesses.

One example is the “Livelihood Access for the Marginalized & Unemployed Women in Bohol,” a joint project with Metrobank Foundation that reached out to the Campamanog Women’s Group (CWG). This group of 26 women who are spouses of local farmers and fishermen received funding to build a store and operate a rice retailing business. To ensure they have the skills needed to start, run, and grow the business, the CWG participated in Good Neighbors’ Group Entrepreneurial Skills Training (GGEST).

In September 2023, Good Neighbors organized capacity-building sessions for the women of Barangay Campamanog. Over four days, the participants engaged in the GGEST program, which focused on entrepreneurship topics such as marketing, production, management, and financial management. The training included structured learning exercises, tests, real sales experiences, and market simulations, equipping the women with practical skills to efficiently run their rice retail store.

A local businesswoman also shared her experiences to inspire resilience and determination among the participants.

The efforts of the CWG paid off when they finished building their rice retail store in December, and received the funds to purchase the rice to stock their store. Today, the store runs at full capacity, showcasing the entrepreneurial skills and resilience the group developed through Good Neighbors’ program.

The Income Generation Program of Good Neighbors Philippines strengthens communities by empowering individuals through new skills and providing financial support. By focusing on economic stability and capacity building, Good Neighbors not only addresses the immediate needs of the community but also helps them grow sustainably.

The story of the Campamanog Women’s Group highlights the transformative potential of entrepreneurship and the enduring benefits of investing in people. Their journey showcases how women’s empowerment can ignite change, inspire others, and build resilient communities.
