The CDP in San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal conducted a two-day capacity building and training activity for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) last September 19 to 20. This activity aimed to further educate and empower them to be skilled agents of promoting health and nutrition.
On the first day of the training, skills transfer was started by teaching them how to take vital signs, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, weight, and temperature which will help them assess ill health such as hypertension, fast heart rate, and difficulty in breathing, underweight, and fever.
The discussion and lecture on prevalent disea-ses such as Tuberculosis (TB), Parasitism, Diarrhea, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, UTI, Dengue, and other relevant topics. The government’s expanded program on immunization (EPI) was also thoroughly explained for their understanding. On the second day, the importance of proper nutrition was discussed and followed by role playing to apply the knowledge they have learned. Some portray scenes of check-ups and gving health education.
The training was a success with the help of Municipal Health Office as resource speakers. At the end of the event, a planning session was conducted in order to provide foresight on how the learnings may be trickled down to the participants’ respective catchment areas.
