In making efforts to protect children, the Philippines has made a mechanism to insure children are protected in the community level. Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) is committee in charge of planning, implementing activities and addressing issues pertaining to children. The committee is composed of different representation from the community with the village captain as the chairman.
GNIP, in contribution to promote a protective and safe environment for children, is working hand in hand with the local government to enhance capacity of the BCPC through re-orientation and workshops for the council members, creating action plans for children, monitoring the implementation of the action plans and sharing resources. These activities will hope to strengthen child protection systems in the community. In solidarity, we can make a protective and safe place for children.
Across GNIP Community Development Projects, there are 71 barangays supported in re-orientation of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) members and strengthening of child protection systems in the community. These activities are a continuous effort to ensure children are safe and there is responsive community to take care children concerns.
